Minimally Invasive Quad-Sparing Total Knee Replacement

This procedure is the latest alternative to the traditional total knee replacement available in the Philippines. In fact, the UST Hospital Orthopaedics Department can perform this special procedure in the Hospital right now.

The MIS Quad-Sparing Total Knee Arthroplasty (QS-TKA) entails using modified techniques and instruments developed by international experts where surgeons can place the same clinically proven implants also used in traditional surgery.

This new minimally invasive surgery allows a much smaller incision then the tradional knee arthroplasty: 3 to 5 inches, on the side of the knee using specialized instruments.

The tendon and quadriceps are spared from being cut in the usual manner, thus the term quad-sparing technique.

With the smaller and less conspicuous incision, the patient experiences less soft tissue trauma in the knee, less blood loss and less pain. Consequently, the patient benefits with a shorter hospital stay and total rehabilitation.
